The Plot:

The 4th installment of Mission Impossible sees agent Ethan Hunt ( Tom Cruise) and his band of secret agents tracking down a terrorist going by the name of Hendricks. This bad guy has accessed the codes to Russian nuclear weapons and is planning to launch them against the most hated adversary, the United States. The team tracks down the terrorist in Kremlin but the mission ends in disaster with the explosion causing massive destruction to the Kremlin. Ghost Protocol is implemented by the President and the IMF( who has been blamed for the bombing) is renounced and rejected any outside help. In steps Ethan Hunt and his remaining 3 agents who now make up the IMF. Together they are given the daunting task of tracking down the terrorist who conducted the bombing, code named “Cobalt” and chase him through Dubai and Mumbai to stop the menace and possibly prevent the looming disaster ahead.

Yes everyone the super agent Ethan Hunt is back. This time the world is his playground with Hunt chasing the bad guy through the world’s tallest building, the Burj Khalifa in Dubai to the chaotic streets of Mumbai. The action scenes are well executed and superb. The chase sequences are face paced and original. The scene in which Hunt is chasing the terrorist through a zero visibility dust storm puts a new spin to the classic weapon centered combat. With nothing to see for miles, Hunt is solely depended on technology and instincts. This is one of the best scenes from the movie.

All the stunts are fantastic but it is the timely use of the special effects that ties the many segments of the movie together. The special, high tech weapons are phenomenal. A device that lets you use magnetic energy to float , a futuristic BMW and transforming suit are all well thought out and relevant to the movie. The mission tactics are also well planned. It is pure entertainment to see the agents stuck in impossible situations and how they skillfully maneuver themselves out to follow through with their objectives.

After a long hiatus of 5 year, Tom Cruise has surely delivered. From Ethan Hunt to Paula Patton’s bad girl, the acting is very well done. Simon Pegg delivers with his goofy genius persona and Jeremy Renner is also convincing. All in all the acting takes the cake.

It is important to mention that what moves the movie along is the comedy and humor elements in the screen play. This movie doesn’t take the action and technology bit too seriously and makes fun of it which is quite refreshing. The action sequences are timed to perfection and with a dose of comedy are able to maintain viewer’s interest

With Brad Bird’s ingenuity and superb directing, this movie is thrilling and suspenseful and definitely worth a watch.
